At Caldera, the Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of blockchain infrastructure. This position is central to the development of our core software offering, which leverages blockchain technology to revolutionize decentralized applications. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize systems that power our innovative solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of blockchain architecture, distributed systems, and software engineering principles to drive technical excellence and scalability.
Key responsibilities include: architecting blockchain nodes that form the backbone of our platform, developing cutting-edge layer two solutions to address blockchain scaling challenges, and enhancing virtual machines that execute Ethereum smart contract code. The Systems Engineer will also evaluate and integrate database backends, networking libraries, and other critical tools into our technology stack. Additionally, they will contribute to building a robust DevOps pipeline to ensure reliable and secure deployment of Caldera Chains across production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of blockchain node architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, and security for our core platform.
- Develop and optimize layer two solutions to overcome blockchain scalability limitations, focusing on innovation and efficiency in decentralized application ecosystems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the virtual machine infrastructure that executes Ethereum smart contract code, enhancing execution speed and reliability.
- Design end-to-end product features tailored to the needs of game developers, ensuring seamless integration with blockchain technology and user-friendly functionality.
- Conduct thorough evaluations of database backends, networking libraries, and other tools, providing technical insights to select and implement the most suitable components for our stack.
- Build and maintain a secure DevOps pipeline to automate the deployment of Caldera Chains, ensuring consistency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot technical issues, working with stakeholders to resolve bottlenecks and improve operational efficiency.
- Stay updated on emerging blockchain technologies and industry trends, contributing to the strategic direction of our infrastructure development.
Job Requirements
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role, with a strong background in blockchain technology and distributed systems architecture.
- Advanced knowledge of blockchain protocols, including Ethereum, and hands-on experience with smart contract development and execution environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Go, Rust, or C++, with a demonstrated ability to develop high-performance, scalable systems.
- Experience with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes), to ensure reliable deployment processes.
- Strong understanding of database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and networking technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, REST APIs) to evaluate and integrate components into our stack.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges in complex systems.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and QA engineers, to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with blockchain scalability solutions (e.g., sharding, state channels) and a passion for advancing decentralized infrastructure.
- Preferred qualifications include familiarity with game development ecosystems, blockchain security protocols, and cloud computing platforms (AWS, GCP).
